Have you ever wondered what it would be like to not have to apply an endless amount of makeup to get your brows to appear like in the picture above? If you suffer from light or almost invisible eyebrows, you’ll want to keep reading.
The secret to fuller and thicker brows does not just lie in skillful makeup tricks or in winning the genetic lottery. Instead, many women and men are flocking to eyebrow microblading, a treatment that uses the art of permanent makeup in order to give the illusion that you have the thickest and most lush eyebrows of your entire life.
The procedure usually lasts less than two hours and healing only takes a few weeks. After the process is over, you’ll be amazed at how much more full and naturally-lush your brows look. While it may initially seem a little terrifying to go under the needle for a procedure such as this, the best way to alleviate that worry is to prepare yourself far in advance in order to help allay all of your fears.
Perhaps even now, you’re just doing research to learn what microblading is all about. That’s great! No matter what kind of procedure you’re interested in having, our guides are here to help walk you through it step-by-step and give you all of the information that you need.
Microblading is a little less scary than other types of cosmetic tattooing because it isn’t as permanent–so if you don’t like the look of it, all you have to do is just wait a year or so for it to fade! But if you have your procedure here at Min’s Permanent Makeup, you’ll be scheduled for a touch-up 6-8 weeks out, and we promise you’ll be pleased with the results.
There are also a host of other concerns that pop up whenever microblading enters into the conversation. We’ll do our best to alleviate those worries and fears so that you won’t have a care in the world as you enter your procedure.
Whether you’re a bit fearful about your future microblading treatment or you’re just perusing the internet in order to learn more, here are five of the most important things to know before your eyebrow microblading. Don’t give into the worry and fear–educate yourself!
5 Things to Know Before Microblading Brows
Microblading is only Semi-Permanent
Microblading is a little bit different from some of the other types of permanent makeup that we explored in our last post–instead of fully tattooing the area with pigment, microblading places featherweight strokes that outline the eyebrows more fully in order to give the appearance of luscious, dark brows.
These strokes are very light, so as to resemble a thicker and fuller brow, but they are not implanted as deeply into the skin. Because of this, microblading is less permanent than traditional permanent makeup and needs more long-term upkeep.
One of the great things about this, however, is that you can use it to enhance your look for certain occasions or important points in your life, or just keep getting the treatments done because you enjoy the way that they look on a daily basis.
No Alcohol, Caffeine In System Before Procedure
If you want to get the best results from your microblading procedure, it’s vital that you take care of your body and your skin before your first treatment.
One of the most important ways to keep your skin hydrated is to stay far away from diuretics like caffeine and alcohol in the days before your first microblading procedure. Substances like these have a tendency to dehydrate your skin, something that can have terrible effects on your microblading procedure.
Your skin will thank you for avoiding these substances in the days before your treatment, as having plump and hydrated skin will ensure that your brows take the pigmentation more easily and painlessly.
Pay important attention to your skincare routine in the days and weeks before your procedure–moisturize more than you normally would to ensure that your skin is ready to accept the ink. Ensure that you avoid alcohol and caffeine and keep your skin healthy before you go under the tattoo needle in order to get the best results.
Microblading Can Be Uncomfortable
There’s no way around it–unfortunately, cosmetic tattooing in all of its forms can be a little bit uncomfortable or even downright painful, depending upon the area. But beauty doesn’t always have to equal pain, especially with this treatment, and your own pain tolerance will dictate how much you feel.
With eyebrow microblading, you’ll experience a little less discomfort than you would in other areas, as the brows aren’t quite as sensitive as the eyes or the lips, two of the more common spots for permanent tattoos.
You may feel a bit of a burning sensation as the artist does their handiwork, but the level will depend upon your own pain tolerance. Some people feel little to nothing while others have to wince a bit at the sting. The pain has been compared to that of a bad sunburn by many people.
Thankfully, because microblading includes featherweight strokes as compared to the deeper ink strokes of some other types of permanent makeup, the pain shouldn’t be intolerable, regardless of your own personal tolerance. As with other procedures, you will have a topical anesthetic applied to your brows beforehand in order to numb the area and make the discomfort a little more bearable.
Microblading usually takes less than two hours, so you won’t be under the needle for long! Once the healing process begins, the pain will lessen a bit.
The Color Will Initially Be Darker
After your first procedure, you may be a bit surprised at the immediate results of microblading. Do not panic if you look a bit strange with your very-dark brows. This happens because initially, the pigment will show up on your unhealed skin much darker than it will once it heals and fades to a more natural color.
Microblading might not be as permanent as other forms of permanent makeup, but some of the same facts still hold: in order to get the best results from your procedure, you’ll have to take very good care of your brows during the healing process. No sun exposure, no excessive sweating, no hot-tubs, swimming, or saunas, no acidic or exfoliating face washes–you must be gentle with your healing skin.
Your brows may fade a bit too much during the healing process, but don’t worry–once the ink is absorbed into your skin, it will be pushed back up to the top-most layers and appear a more visible and natural pigment.
Even if your brows are the perfect color after healing completely, we still recommend that you go in for a touch-up after 6-8 weeks.
You Will Need a Touch-Up After 6-8 Weeks
As we mentioned above, you will not only need a touch-up on your pigment after 6-8 weeks from your initial treatment–you will also have to have another treatment 18-24 months post-procedure. This treatment is only semi-permanent, so every year or so you will need to have it touched-up or redone in order to keep your brows looking lush and full.
The reason that this happens is because the pigmentation doesn’t go far enough into the skin to last for the lengths of time that traditional cosmetic tattooing does. One great thing about this is it also makes it easier to forgo treatment if you don’t like the color or have become more comfortable with your lighter brows.
Aftercare is also an important part of ensuring your microblading lasts as long as it possibly can. Avoid direct sunlight as well as excessive exfoliation to the area–take gentle care of your brows to the longest-lasting results.
But because microblading is only semi-permanent, this allows you more freedom in choosing whether or not to continue treating your brows. Perhaps you get it touched up once a year or you decide to just do it for special occasions, there’s really no wrong way to go about it–it’s totally up to you and the look that you want to have.
